A small but beloved corner of EPCOT's Mexico World Showcase Pavilion went quiet this week. The Oaxacan wood carving stand — tucked inside the pyramid near the entrance to the Plaza de los Amigos marketplace — permanently closed on August 31, 2026. In its final days, cast members had posted handwritten signs offering the colorful, hand-carved wooden animal figures at 50% off.
By September 1, every trace of the shop had been cleared away. The space where the stand once stood now holds little more than a large barrel and a lamppost, though guests are currently still permitted to walk through the area. The carvings themselves featured animals crafted from wood harvested in the hills around the Oaxacan Valley in southern Mexico — a detail that made the stand a genuinely distinctive stop in the World Showcase.
Alongside the merchandise closure, Walt Disney World Resort also roped off the pavilion's Kidcot stop, part of an interactive scavenger hunt designed to engage younger guests — and plenty of adults — as they make their way around the World Showcase. The station has been dismantled and blocked with velvet ropes, meaning EPCOT visitors can no longer collect the Mexico stamp for their Kidcot "passports."
Disney has not explained why either the shop or the Kidcot stop was closed, and there's been no word on whether or when a replacement Kidcot location for the Mexico Pavilion might appear. For now, families doing the full World Showcase passport run will need to skip that particular stop.
