If you've strolled through EPCOT's Germany Pavilion lately, you may have noticed some overhead activity at Karamell-Küche, the beloved caramel-treat shop near the pavilion's center. Workers have stripped large sections of the shop's roof down to a brown protective underlayment, which is now stretched across the steeply pitched surface and carefully fitted around dormer windows, decorative spires, and other architectural details.
The good news for caramel apple and candy fans: Karamell-Küche remained open to guests throughout the work. The refurbishment is purely structural and cosmetic — happening above your head while you shop below.
The roofing project extends to other parts of the pavilion as well. Observers can spot both old and newly installed shingles side by side, offering a rare before-and-after glimpse of the work in progress. The fresh shingles are noticeably lighter and more uniform compared to the darker, weathered sections still awaiting replacement. Previous phases of the project already finished the red-and-brown diamond-patterned roof of Das Kaufhaus.
Not everything in the pavilion is fully operational, however. Volkunst Clocks and Crafts remains closed, with tables blocking its entrance during ongoing interior work. The wine shop Weinkeller is open, though guests are currently redirected to exit through Stein Haus due to the exterior refurbishment activity nearby.
