If you've been strolling through World Showcase lately, you may have noticed some subtle changes over in the Germany Pavilion. The roof of Das Kaufhaus — one of the pavilion's central buildings — is currently under renovation, with its signature red shingles removed and replaced by a brown construction scrim while work is underway.
The scrim blends reasonably well with the surrounding rooflines, so the pavilion's overall look remains largely intact for guests passing through. Given that the existing shingles showed signs of age, the refurbishment seems like a practical and overdue update, and similar work could extend to other rooftops around the pavilion down the road.
The roof isn't the only thing getting attention. The pavilion's restrooms are also temporarily closed for refurbishment and tucked behind a construction wall. It's a two-front spruce-up for a pavilion that has long been a fan favorite along the World Showcase lagoon.
Construction is currently a common sight across Walt Disney World, with large-scale projects underway at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom as new lands take shape. The Germany work is smaller in scope but a welcome sign that Disney is also tending to the details in its existing spaces.
