Disney's Coronado Springs Resort has added two new grilled cheese sandwiches to the menu at El Mercado de Coronado, and they come with soup — plus prices that might give you pause before you order.
The Raspberry & Brie Grilled Cheese ($18.50) pairs creamy brie with sweet raspberry preserves on a seeded multigrain bread, served alongside a Red Pepper Gouda Bisque. The result leans decidedly sweet — think raspberry toast with a hint of cheese rather than a true brie showcase. The bisque was mild, with red pepper as the dominant note, though dipping the sandwich in the soup helped bring the two together.
The Tomato & Bacon Grilled Cheese ($19.50) takes a more classic route, layering crispy bacon, tomato, cheddar, provolone, and yellow American cheese. It's savory and satisfying, and the accompanying Tomato Soup — lightly spiced and finished with parmesan — made for an ideal pairing. The bacon could have been a touch crispier, but overall this one delivered on comfort-food expectations with a modest upgrade over the standard diner version.
Both sandwiches are generously sized — shareable, even — which helps justify the price a little. They're best suited for guests already staying at Coronado Springs who want something familiar and filling after a day in the parks, rather than a destination worth making a special trip across property for.
