Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport’s North Terminal expansion has reached a visible construction milestone, with crews erecting primary steel beams for a planned two-story entry atrium. The work follows months of site and foundation preparation for the 80,000-square-foot addition.
The multi-level wing is being built to connect with the existing terminal corridor. Construction is also underway on an elevator shaft and elevated walkways that will link the new and current terminal structures.
Airport officials say the expansion is planned to add three larger gates, four baggage-claim carousels and dedicated rental-car counters. The main terminal addition, gates and baggage facilities are projected to open to passengers in April 2028.
The broader, multi-phase project is scheduled for completion in May 2029, after the TSA security screening checkpoint is relocated and expanded. Officials said moving baggage claim first is intended to allow that work to proceed without stopping daily flight operations.
