If you've strolled past Echo Lake at Disney's Hollywood Studios lately, you may have noticed some freshly painted scenery. Crews recently repainted two of the three artificial tree stumps that sit in the lake, restoring their deep brown color after years of fading had left them looking washed out and pale — nearly blending into the water itself.
The lake was drained last month as part of a broader refurbishment that also includes work on the Dockside Diner. Along with the stumps, Echo Lake is dotted with fake fallen trees that help disguise the underwater plumbing infrastructure hidden beneath the surface. With two stumps now freshly painted, the remaining stump and the fallen trees are expected to follow in the coming days.
An aerial photo taken during a previous Christmas season illustrated just how striking the difference is — the stumps, when properly colored, stand out clearly against the water rather than disappearing into the background. The lake is a central gathering spot, ringed by Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Hollywood & Vine, 50's Prime Time Cafe, and For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration.
