Good news for families who love turning a stroll through EPCOT's World Showcase into a full-blown treasure hunt: Walt Disney World has confirmed that DuckTales World Showcase Adventure will return, even though the Play Disney Parks app it relied on has been retired. Disney shared the news with journalist Scott Gustin, noting that the experience is currently under refurbishment and that more details about its updated format will be announced later.
The experience invites guests to team up with Scrooge McDuck, Donald Duck, and the rest of the DuckTales crew on a quest to recover the 7 Plunders of the World across seven pavilions — China, Mexico, Norway, Germany, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom. Each country previously offered three missions plus a finale, with each mission running roughly 25 to 30 minutes. It's the kind of activity that gives kids a genuine reason to care about World Showcase while sneaking in some real cultural learning along the way.
Because the game was built around the Play Disney Parks app — which went dark on September 16, 2026 — some form of modification is inevitable. Disney has already shown one path forward with Batuu Bounty Hunters, which continues to function using MagicBand+ and in-land screens rather than the app. Whether DuckTales World Showcase Adventure follows a similar route, moves into the My Disney Experience app, or adopts an entirely different delivery method hasn't been announced yet.
The timeline is also an open question. Disney Tourist Blog notes that previous transitions between World Showcase Adventure game versions took only weeks, though the scope of this change may take longer depending on how high a priority it is for the parks. A return before the end of 2026 is possible, as is a 2027 debut — Disney hasn't committed to a specific window.
