After more than two decades apart, Dreamfinder and Figment are finally getting back together. Disney officially announced at the D23 Expo on August 16, 2026, that EPCOT's Journey into Imagination with Figment will be completely reimagined — and the ride's long-absent co-host, the Dreamfinder, is coming back with it.
The reveal came at the very end of the "Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase" presentation, delivered by Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum as a surprise closer. "We are taking a new journey into imagination at EPCOT with Dreamfinder and Figment," Mazloum told the crowd, adding that the company has heard fans loud and clear on this one.
For newer Disney visitors, the emotional weight of the moment may need some context. The original Journey into Imagination opened in 1983, pairing the whimsical, top-hat-wearing scientist Dreamfinder with his purple dragon companion Figment. A controversial 1999 refurbishment removed both characters entirely. Figment was restored in a 2002 rework of the ride, but Dreamfinder was left out — a sore spot for longtime fans ever since.
What the reimagined attraction will actually look like remains entirely unknown. Disney has shared no details about the new storyline, show scenes, technology, or track layout. There is also no announced timeline for when the current version of the ride will close for construction, nor when the new attraction might open. For now, guests visiting EPCOT can still experience the existing ride while it remains open.
