Downtown Orlando is expected to welcome more than 60,000 visitors from Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27, as concerts, a U.S. men’s national soccer match, performing-arts events and the Orlando Farmers Market draw crowds to the city’s core.
The City of Orlando expects its busiest traffic periods to be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday’s schedule includes the USA vs. Peru match at Inter&Co Stadium at 4:30 p.m. and a Garth Brooks concert at Kia Center at 8 p.m.
Drivers should expect heavier traffic on South Street between the State Road 408 exit and Division Avenue, including near the ThreatLocker and City Commons garages. The city also flagged the I-4 eastbound South Street off-ramp, the westbound West Anderson Street off-ramp and the I-4 South Street Express off-ramps. Construction and special-event closures may alter routes throughout the weekend.
Visitors planning to drive are encouraged to select parking before leaving home and allow extra time to park and reach their destination. Downtown’s parking map lists public and private facilities, including the 55W Garage, Central Boulevard Parking Garage and Administration Garage; city-operated garages and lots include posted hours and rates, and some parking can be reserved in advance.
For getting between downtown venues without moving a car, LYMMO offers free circulator service. Its Grapefruit Line serves Kia Center, Inter&Co Stadium, Lake Eola and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, while the Orange Line serves Church Street, City Hall, LYNX Central Station and the Dr. Phillips Center. LYNX says both lines generally run every 15 minutes on Saturdays and every 30 minutes on Sundays and holidays.
SunRail’s regular service is not available for Saturday and Sunday events because it operates Monday through Friday. Friday visitors may use SunRail, though they should check the schedule carefully for their return trip.
Other scheduled events include Friday performances by Santiago Cruz and Little Big Town at the Dr. Phillips Center; Saturday performances by Charly Reynolds, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Pride: The Rhythm of the Chosen Hearts; and Sunday’s Orlando Farmers Market at Lake Eola Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Garth Brooks is also scheduled at Kia Center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
