If you have a Walt Disney World trip on the calendar for October, a little advance planning can save you some disappointment. Four attractions — including one full water park — are scheduled to be offline for refurbishment that month, so it's worth knowing what to expect before you arrive.
The biggest long-term closure is Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom, which has been dark since July and won't reopen until late spring 2027. The beloved show is receiving a significant overhaul, with new scenes set in the 1960s, 1980s, and the new millennium, along with a Walt Disney Audio Animatronic in the pre-show. Disney announced at D23 Expo that Bryan Cranston and Jamie Lee Curtis will voice the roles of Father and Mother in the updated attraction.
Also going quiet for most of October is the Walt Disney World Railroad, which loops through Main Street, U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland. The My Disney Experience app currently shows the train returning sometime in November 2026, with hours listed beginning October 30th — though Disney has not confirmed a specific reopening date.
Over at the water parks, Blizzard Beach's Slush Gusher — a 90-foot high-speed waterslide near the base of Summit Plummet — is closed for refurbishment, though the rest of Blizzard Beach remains open. Meanwhile, Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will be entirely closed throughout October and into the coming months, with no announced reopening date. Disney is directing guests to Blizzard Beach during that period. If you're planning to hit the Disney World water parks this fall, Blizzard Beach is your best bet.
