September is a genuinely great time to visit Walt Disney World — lighter crowds, the start of EPCOT's fall festival season, and a hint that the brutal Florida heat may finally be loosening its grip. But a handful of attractions, dining spots, and resort amenities will be offline this month, so it's worth knowing what to expect before you arrive.
On the ride side, the Walt Disney World Railroad is still running in a limited shuttle mode between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland only — Frontierland Station stays closed as the Magic Kingdom expansion project continues. The beloved Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland is also dark, undergoing a significant update with a target return sometime in 2027. Over at the water parks, Typhoon Lagoon wraps up its season on September 8th and closes the following day for its annual refurbishment; Blizzard Beach remains open as the alternative.
Resort guests will notice a few changes too. Kidani Village at Animal Kingdom Lodge is midway through a phased lobby refurbishment running through early November, with the main entrance closed and check-in temporarily shifted to the Palace Library. At the Grand Floridian, the Grand Floridian Cafe is closed for a refresh through October, though brunch service has relocated to Citricos in the meantime. Polynesian Village fans should note that Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace is closed through late October due to work at the Grand Ceremonial House.
Two more resort spots round out the list: the Turf Club Bar & Grill at Saratoga Springs is closed through late September (the Turf Club Lounge remains open), and the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course near Old Key West Resort is shut for renovations through October, which may affect views from some rooms overlooking the course.
