Disney World's Pool Crackdown Is Spreading to More Resorts

Guests who've long enjoyed slipping between Walt Disney World's resort pools may need to rethink that habit. Disney has been quietly rolling out a wristband verification system at a growing number of its hotels, requiring Cast Members to confirm a guest's reservation before granting pool access — and the list of participating properties keeps getting longer.

The latest addition is Disney's Port Orleans Resort — Riverside, where a new sign makes it explicit: the pool is reserved for guests booked at that specific hotel. That's a meaningful shift for Port Orleans, since the Riverside and French Quarter locations have historically enjoyed a relaxed, shared-amenity relationship that many guests considered one of the perks of staying in that corner of the resort. Whether that cross-property arrangement continues under the new system remains to be seen, and Disney hasn't clarified its intentions.

Riverside joins a notable roster of properties now enforcing the wristband policy. Stormalong Bay — the sprawling pool complex at Disney's Yacht Club and Beach Club resorts that has long drawn envious visitors from across the property — was among the earlier adopters. Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort and BoardWalk Inn have also introduced reservation checks at their pools, as has Port Orleans — French Quarter. The exact protocol varies: some resorts issue wristbands good for an entire stay, while others refresh them daily.

The underlying rules haven't changed dramatically — Disney has always technically limited pool access to registered guests — but enforcement is now far more consistent. Relying on a busy day or an unstaffed entrance to slip through is an increasingly risky strategy. Guests planning a Walt Disney World vacation should factor their own resort's pool offerings into their hotel choice rather than counting on access to amenities elsewhere on property.
