If you've ever slipped into a Disney World resort pool that wasn't your own — or grabbed a drink at a pool bar while exploring a neighboring hotel — that casual perk is getting harder to pull off. Disney has been tightening its resort-hopping policies since July 2026, and the latest front in that effort is the pool gate.
Disney Food Blog reporters experienced the change firsthand at Disney's BoardWalk Inn, where cast members were stationed at the main entrance to the Luna Park Pool, checking hotel reservations before allowing guests inside. Side entrances to the pool area had also been closed off, usable only as exits. The Leaping Horse Libations pool bar — which sits entirely within the fenced pool area — was off-limits to anyone not booked at the BoardWalk. In the past, guests could access the bar without issue even without a room reservation there.
The enforcement isn't entirely new territory. Stormalong Bay, the sprawling pool at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club, has required reservation confirmation for entry for years and is widely considered the most coveted pool on property. Some other resorts, like Riviera Resort, use MagicBand or room-key touchpoints at pool gates. But the BoardWalk's Luna Park Pool previously had an unlocked gate, making it easy for anyone to wander in. That appears to have changed.
Technically, Disney's rule limiting pool use to guests staying at that specific resort has been on the books for a long time — it just wasn't consistently enforced at every location. Now, the policy seems to be expanding and stiffening across the resort portfolio, likely as part of Disney's broader push to manage overcrowding at popular amenities. Whether this stricter approach will roll out to moderate and value resort pools remains to be seen. In the meantime, guests looking to explore other Disney hotels are encouraged to use theme park transportation as a connection point or book a dining reservation at their destination resort.
