Walt Disney World visitors could encounter frequent rain and thunderstorms in the days ahead, with the National Weather Service forecast for Orlando showing storm chances increasing through next week.

The forecast cited by Inside the Magic called for a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday, rising to 70% Friday and Saturday, 75% Sunday, and 80% or higher from Monday through Wednesday. The highest chances do not mean rain will fall continuously all day, but they point to repeated opportunities for storms during park visits.

Heavy downpours, lightning and localized flooding are the main concerns. The National Weather Service’s Melbourne office said scattered to numerous showers with embedded lightning were expected across east-central Florida, with locally heavy rainfall potentially affecting low-lying and urban areas.

At Disney World, storms can lead to temporary changes for outdoor attractions, entertainment, pools and transportation. Disney says some resort experiences may be delayed, rescheduled or canceled during severe weather. Guests can check the My Disney Experience app for current attraction and entertainment status while planning their day.

Despite comparisons to past hurricane-related closures, there was no active Atlantic tropical cyclone as of 2 a.m. EDT October 1, according to the National Hurricane Center, and no cyclone formation was expected in the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea or Gulf over the following seven days. Disney World’s hurricane policy applies when the National Hurricane Center issues a hurricane warning for Orlando or a guest’s home area within seven days of arrival—not simply for a forecast involving thunderstorms or heavy rain.

Travelers visiting during the unsettled stretch may want to allow flexibility in their itineraries, pack rain protection and monitor official forecasts and weather alerts. Conditions, storm timing and rainfall coverage can still change before the days currently expected to be wettest.
