If you're planning a Walt Disney World holiday trip this Christmas, it's worth knowing upfront that a handful of traditions won't be part of the festivities. Some of these cancellations are recent news, while others have been gone for years but still catch guests off guard when they arrive expecting to find them.
The biggest recent loss is the Grand Floridian's life-size gingerbread house, a beloved resort staple that dates back to 1999. Disney confirmed earlier this year that it won't return this season — marking the first true absence of the display in more than 25 years (it was also unavailable last year due to lobby construction). The resort will still offer smaller gingerbread creations from its culinary team, and other resorts such as the Beach Club and Contemporary are expected to feature their own displays, including the popular gingerbread carousel and gingerbread castle, though Disney hasn't formally confirmed those yet. Also long gone: the Cinderella Castle Dreamlights (last seen in 2019), EPCOT's Lights of Winter (retired after 2008), and the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, which ended in 2015 when the Streets of America were demolished for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge construction.
Plenty of holiday magic does remain on the calendar, though. EPCOT's International Festival of the Holidays runs November 27 through December 30, 2026, bringing global cuisine, cultural storytelling, and the nightly Candlelight Processional — featuring a 50-piece orchestra, a cast member choir, and celebrity narrators including Neil Patrick Harris, Ralph Macchio, and Jodi Benson. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, a separately ticketed Magic Kingdom event, takes place on select nights from November 8 through December 22, running 7 PM to midnight (with entry available from 4 PM for ticketholders). Hollywood Studios hosts Jollywood Nights on select nights from November 7, 2026, through January 5, 2027, featuring the Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! fireworks spectacular, exclusive character meet-and-greets with over 20 rare characters, and more, from 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM (with entry from 5:30 PM).
