The filing authorizes Buena Vista Construction Company — Disney's in-house contractor — to provide labor, materials, and electrical work at 785 Studio Dr., the address of the Disney Skyliner station outside Disney's Hollywood Studios. The permit is valid for one year, clearing Disney to begin work at any point through late August 2027.
What the permit doesn't say is almost as notable as what it does. The filing uses broad language standard for this kind of paperwork, and it gives no indication of the project's scope, whether any closure is involved, or whether guests will notice anything at all. That language could cover anything from replacing lighting to a full mechanical overhaul — there's simply no way to know from the document alone.
What adds some context is an already-announced Skyliner refurbishment closure scheduled for January 24 through January 30, 2027, during which complimentary bus service will cover affected routes. Disney has historically used that slow stretch of January to perform maintenance on the gondola system. So the permit may simply be early administrative groundwork for that planned closure — or it could relate to something separate happening sooner.
The stakes are real for a lot of guests. The Disney Skyliner opened in 2019 and connects Hollywood Studios and EPCOT's International Gateway to four resorts: Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney's Pop Century Resort, and Disney's Riviera Resort. The fleet runs more than 250 gondola cabins, each accommodating up to 10 guests, and the system operates from roughly an hour before Early Theme Park Entry through 90 minutes after park close. Guests staying at those four resorts frequently rely on it as their primary way in and out of the parks.
