Grand Floridian's New Entrance Route Is Tripping Up Drivers

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa has a new way in — but "new" doesn't mean "clearer." The resort's entrance gate remains exactly where it has always been, but the road leading to it changed this week as part of the ongoing World Drive North roadway project. Instead of arriving via the former southern roundabout, guests are now routed through a northern roundabout, out an exit marked "Service and Authorized Vehicles Only," past the overflow dining and cast member parking lot, and then south down the old Floridian Way to the gate. That's several turns for what used to be a straightforward hotel driveway.

The "Service and Authorized Vehicles Only" sign is the sticking point. Guests following Disney's own resort signage are being directed down a road that simultaneously tells them they aren't supposed to be there. Disney appears to already know this is causing confusion — a flashing LED correction sign has been installed as a backup for drivers who miss the turn and loop through the roundabout instead. A-frame temporary signs mark the overflow dining lot turnoff, another indication that the current setup is a work-in-progress rather than a finished product.

Getting out proves trickier than getting in. Resort guests don't exit through the entrance gate; they return through the same traffic light and northern roundabout. Guests leaving the overflow dining lot face an even longer loop — essentially circling from near the southern roundabout all the way up to the northern one and back. The old southern roundabout exit is now blocked by concrete barriers. On the old Floridian Way itself, only the southbound lane is open to general traffic. Drivers should also know that the Seven Seas Drive intersection with Floridian Way is permanently closed, meaning reaching Disney's Polynesian Village Resort — including restaurants like 'Ohana and Trader Sam's — now requires continuing on North World Drive and looping back.

All of this is part of Phase III of the World Drive North project, a multi-year overhaul of one of Walt Disney World's busiest transportation corridors. Two roundabouts on the new Floridian Way are already open; a third near the Magic Kingdom parking lot is still to come. The entire phase is expected to wrap in late 2027. In the meantime, navigation apps haven't caught up with the new configuration, so drivers heading to the Grand Floridian should watch for the "Grand Floridian Turn Right" sign before entering the northern roundabout — that cue appears ahead of the roundabout itself. Building in extra time and, where possible, using the monorail, buses, or boats will sidestep the road confusion entirely.
