Guests staying at or visiting Disney's Contemporary Resort will notice a fresh round of construction activity on the building's Bay Lake side, where new scaffolding and green construction walls have recently gone up. The work marks the latest phase of an exterior refurbishment that has been making its way around the resort's iconic A-frame tower.
The scaffolding rises to roughly the height of the lowest guest-room balconies near the southern end of the tower, closest to the Convention Center. Multiple elevated platforms give crews access to the exterior columns and recessed wall sections — the same general approach used when work was underway on the Magic Kingdom-facing side of the building earlier this year. At ground level, construction barriers surround a Convention Center staircase entrance and stretch beneath the covered walkway and across part of the adjacent tiled plaza.
The refurbishment got underway in September 2024 and has already outlasted its original September 2025 target completion date. Disney subsequently pushed the timeline to July 2026, and has since extended it again — current estimates now put the finish line at the end of 2027.
For Walt Disney World visitors with stays booked at the Contemporary, it's worth knowing that access near the Convention Center entrance is currently affected, though the resort itself remains open and fully operational. The scope and pace of the work suggest the scaffolding will continue to migrate around the building as each section is completed.
