The patent describes unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) wrapped in thematic cladding, meaning individual drones could appear as spacecraft, flying characters, or other themed shapes rather than plain lights in the sky.
What makes the system particularly interesting is how it handles the unexpected. Instead of relying on a fixed flight path, each drone carries onboard show-effect devices and a memory bank storing multiple alternate show scripts. A built-in controller monitors the drone's real-time position and timing against the intended flight plan — and if wind, a launch delay, or some other variable throws things off, the system automatically selects a backup script to keep the overall performance looking intentional and polished.
Disney's drone shows have had a limited footprint so far. The Disney Dreams That Soar show at Disney Springs made a splash but was never repeated, and currently only two Disney parks worldwide run drone shows: Momentous at Hong Kong Disneyland and Disney Tales of Magic at Disneyland Paris. No announcement has been made about bringing a new drone show to Walt Disney World or any other park, and Disney indicated it would likely upgrade existing shows with this technology before launching something entirely new.
