When most people picture a Disney cruise, they imagine a ship overrun with strollers and sugar-fueled kids. The reality aboard the new Disney Destiny, at least for adult travelers, is considerably more sophisticated — and considerably more crowded than you might hope.
The Destiny accommodates more than 4,000 passengers across over 1,200 staterooms and is built around a Heroes and Villains theme that nods to classic Disney films throughout. The ship's nine adults-only spaces include cocktail lounges, specialty restaurants, a spa, and the Quiet Cove pool. A three-night sailing starts at just over $1,000 per person, covering accommodations, meals, and entertainment. Drinks are extra, and longer itineraries cost more accordingly.
The standout adult venue is De Vil's, a 101 Dalmatians-inspired cocktail lounge complete with monochrome décor, a spotted piano, themed cocktails, and periodic appearances by Cruella herself during interactive musical performances. It's part bar, part ticketed attraction — and the line to get in stretches a full corridor. The Haunted Mansion Parlor, The Rose (a Beauty and the Beast-themed bar), and Cask and Cannon, a Pirates of the Caribbean pub, round out the grown-up drinking scene. Of the four, Cask and Cannon offered the most breathing room thanks to its larger layout and food menu, but the others regularly felt undersized for the crowd trying to get in.
Walt Disney Imagineering designers Sara Pepper and Madeline Weber told The Independent that families remain at the heart of how the ships are designed, and that the intimate scale of spaces like De Vil's is intentional — meant to feel luxurious and story-driven rather than sprawling. The trade-off, as one writer discovered during a mother-daughter birthday sailing, is that scoring a seat often requires timing your visit to off-peak windows between dinner sittings and waiting patiently for other guests to leave.
