Disney Cruise Line has quietly reached a major environmental milestone: by the end of fiscal year 2025, the company had eliminated more than 99% of all guest-facing, non-essential single-use plastics across its ships and Bahamian island destinations. The achievement didn't come from a single policy decision — it came from thousands of small, daily choices made by crew members throughout every corner of the operation.

In dining areas, culinary teams have shifted away from individual, single-use packaging toward bulk containers and reusable serving ware. Plastic water bottles have been replaced with recyclable aluminum options at onboard refill stations, and specialty coffee drinks are now served in plastic-free paper cups at 24-hour beverage stations. Retail teams made the switch to reusable shopping bags, a change that eliminates nearly one million plastic bags from circulation every year.

The island destinations have been a testing ground for some of the most ambitious changes. Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point was designed from the start to operate without any guest-facing single-use plastics, relying entirely on reusable dishware, flatware, and cups. Those same service items have since been introduced at Disney Castaway Cay, where the operations team has also rolled out redesigned trash cans with integrated recycling and food-scrap sorting to improve waste management efficiency.

Behind the scenes, the impact runs even deeper. Stateroom hosts now distribute Castaway Club loyalty gifts in paper-based packaging rather than plastic sleeves — a shift that has removed more than three million plastic sleeves from operations since 2024. Refillable bath product dispensers installed in every stateroom eliminate more than 2.2 million plastic amenity containers annually. At the loading docks in Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, and Singapore, reusable Disney Cruise Line pallet covers have replaced the plastic wrap previously used to protect incoming merchandise inventory.
