Walt Disney World's Contemporary Resort is deep into an ongoing exterior renovation, with scaffolding now blanketing significant portions of the landmark A-frame tower. The current setup is concentrated near the southern end of the building, closest to the Convention Center, rising from the foundation all the way up to the lowest level of guest room balconies.
Tan tarps have appeared over room windows in the affected area, suggesting interior work may be underway alongside the exterior repairs. Multiple elevated platforms are in place to give crews access to the resort's distinctive columns and recessed walls — the same approach used on the opposite side of the tower earlier this year.
At ground level, green construction walls now enclose the staircase entrance to the Contemporary Convention Center, with barriers extending under the covered walkway and across part of the tiled plaza. No other construction activity appears to be visible to guests elsewhere on the property.
The refurbishment is running well behind its original schedule. Work began in September 2024 with a projected finish date of September 2025, but that target has been revised twice — first to July 2026, and now to the end of 2027.
