Disney World's Coronado Springs Convention Center Starts Year-Long Refurb

Guests planning a stay at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort will want to factor in some construction noise and closures: the resort's convention center has begun a refurbishment expected to last a full year. The El Centro Corridor and surrounding areas are also part of the project, tied directly to the convention center work. The hotel itself remains open during the process.

Elsewhere on Disney World property, construction and closures continue at a steady clip. At Magic Kingdom, the Carousel of Progress has been closed since July 6th for a major overhaul that will modernize its scenes and add a new Walt Disney animatronic — with a reopening currently targeted for 2027. Across the park, the Rivers of America area (including the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island) permanently closed July 7th to make way for the new Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park, which will bring two brand-new attractions to Magic Kingdom.

Over at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Vacation Fun closed August 9th with no reopening date set, and the former Muppets Courtyard remains walled off for construction of the new Monstropolis land. Disney has confirmed that Harryhausen's will be among the dining options in the Monsters, Inc.-themed area, and new theming elements — including a distinctive set of teeth atop the old PizzeRizzo building — are already going up.

At EPCOT, La Signature in the France Pavilion and sections of the Germany Pavilion (including the Volkskunst store and public restrooms) are both closed for refurbishment, with no firm reopening dates announced. Meanwhile, Animal Kingdom's Tropical Americas land, Pueblo Esperanza, is showing real progress: cranes are reshaping existing rooftops to fit the new theme, and the entrance to the land is beginning to take shape ahead of its three planned new rides.
