Zoo Miami kicks things off with Bugtopia, a walk-through experience running through October 31 that features 13 larger-than-life animatronic insects styled like comic-book superheroes. Included with regular zoo admission (tickets run $21–$25), the exhibit also offers hands-on science stations, junior entomologist challenges, and bug-themed bites from local vendors including Salt & Straw and Bartaco. The first 250 guests each day score zoo sunglasses and a kids' meal voucher to Flanigan's.
Dino fans won't be left out: Jurassic Quest rolls into the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo Center on September 12–13, bringing life-size moving dinosaurs — think T. rex, Spinosaurus, and Apatosaurus — alongside fossil digs, dino rides, and a LEGO brick-building zone complete with a Brick Derby race. One $29 ticket covers both experiences. The Gold Coast Railroad Museum opens its doors at no charge on the first Saturday of every month, letting families explore more than 40 historic rail cars — including the Presidential Rail Car Ferdinand Magellan — at its home on the former Naval Air Station Richmond. Over at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, a free seed-planting workshop on September 6 invites kids to pot seedlings and decorate planters alongside the Vizcaya Village Farmers Market (RSVP required via Eventbrite).
Cultural celebrations add depth to the lineup. Doral Central Park's annual Hispanic Heritage celebration on September 12 brings mariachi, flamenco, Colombian dance, and salsa performances to the amphitheater, plus an empanada competition and the Grito de Miami contest — all free with RSVP. And for families with older kids or teens, South Florida alt-R&B artist OGNEILJAY headlines an all-ages show at Sweat Records on September 4, with local acts 5loko and Suun rounding out the bill.
