Construction is moving into a new phase at the future Tropical Americas land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where the entrance archway has been wrapped in mesh and surrounded by scaffolding.
WDWNT reported seeing the work on September 27. The mesh prepares the structure for stucco, a cement-based plaster that creates a hard, rock-like outer shell. Once that stage is complete, crews can add paint and other themed details.
Earlier this month, the archway’s steel framework had been fully covered. The gateway will lead into Pueblo Esperanza, the fictional village planned for the reimagining of the former DinoLand U.S.A.

Disney has said the land will include Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto inside the Casita, Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent in the space now occupied by DINOSAUR, and El Carrusel de los Animalitos. Plans also call for a playground, shops and dining locations within the village.
